ELECTRIFICATION OF THE DRIVE.

The electrification of the drivetrain is the mobility for the future. Let’s look at the different MINI systems and get to know some of the common terms.

BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLES.

POWERED BY LITHIUM.

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) are charged by plugging into an external power supply and by regenerative braking. They require no petrol or diesel, and they produce zero tailpipe emissions.

THE DRIVETRAIN.

The high voltage lithium-ION battery (1) is arranged in a T-shape and positioned along the length of the vehicle floor. The centre of gravity is much lower than with a petrol-powered MINI, for enhanced stability and agile handling.

The single electric motor (2) is located at the front and directly powers the front wheels. It produces the same power as a 2.0-litre, petrol-powered Cooper S.

The transmission and other integrated electronic systems (3) are located in the front under the bonnet of the new MINI Cooper SE 3-door. The charging port (4) is located on the left side scuttle.

THE DRIVE.

Dynamic yet smooth. The all-electric MINI's compact system produces extremely low vibrations and lets you glide through the city in near silence.

Fast and direct. The all-electric MINI gives you full torque immediately to deliver thrilling agility, stirring acceleration with no lag, no gearshift interruptions and a very responsive drive.

One pedal driving. You can drive almost entirely with just one pedal. You can accelerate to your desired speed. And you can put power back into your battery every time you lift your foot up and come to a stop.

COST SAVINGS.

Less is more with the MINI Cooper SE 3-door. It's about keeping things simple with fewer parts to service and maintain than with a petrol-driven car. And keeping your car in top condition costs a lot less too.

PLUG-IN HYBRIDS.

PHEV - COMBINING BOTH ENERGY WORLDS.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) combine an electric and a conventional combustion engine drivetrain.

The MINI Cooper SE Countryman All 4 gives you 220 PS (162 kW). And latest-generation battery technology allows you to drive purely electrically and emission-free. It’s ideal for driving electrically in the city and using the engine for longer distances.

You can conveniently ‘plug-in’ to a socket at home, a workspace – or at a public charging station.

DRIVETRAIN CONSTRUCTION.

The TwinPower Turbo engine under the bonnet (1) drives the front wheels, with the fuel tank located at the rear (2).

In pure electric mode it is a rear-wheel drive – with the electric motor (3) located at the rear, driving the back wheel.

The battery and electronic systems are fitted under the rear seats (4).

THE DRIVE.

Spontaneous power delivery.

Instant acceleration 0-100 km/h in 7.3 sec.

Recuperation or brake energy regeneration. You can recharge the battery when braking or coasting. The energy is 'recouped' and stored in the battery.

ALL4 all-wheel drive system.

This optimises traction and stability in adverse weather and surface conditions so you can react quickly and precisely to changing situations and terrain. MINI Countryman Cooper SE can use both drivetrains seperately or together to create a powerful 4-wheel drive.

OTHER EV CONCEPTS.

Two other electric mobility concepts can be found on the road.

MILD HYBRIDS.

Regenerative braking recoups energy which would normally be lost when slowing down, and redeploys it to boost power to your engine helping it perform more economically.

You can not charge a mild-hybrid directly via a plug at home or public charger.

FUELL CELL EVS – POWERED BY HYDROGEN.

Hydrogen fuel cell cars are driven by an electric motor. The difference, however, is that they produce electricity themselves. So unlike BEVs and PHEVs, they don’t get their power from a built-in chargable battery. Instead, hydrogen cars effectively have their own efficient power plant on board – the fuel cell.

DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY IS OUR DRIVE.

WHO CARES ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY?

International demand for electric mobility is growing every day, and with our sustainable and innovative vehicles and services we offer effective eMobility solutions to both residential and business customers. However, climate neutrality and emission-free mobility will only be fully achieved through a variety of electrified drive technologies. For this reason, we continue to drive the development of hydrogen-based fuel cell technology for low-carbon propulsion systems.

But that’s not all. Consumers need information and advice that allows them to perceive the extent of their energy consumption so they can understand how to help improve the environment … and save money. At the same time, we have to work with public utility organisations to help them find better ways to manage renewable resources to meet demands from customers and regulators.

Our commitment to sustainability is overriding and this can be clearly seen with the implementation of standards in the life cycle assessment of vehicles. This starts with the resources used, energy consumption, through to recycling rates. Our goal is also to achieve sustainable value chains with recyclable and renewable raw materials – and that includes energy supply. It is not only the management of resources, but we now aim to determine the CO2 footprint for the material supply chain when awarding contracts to suppliers – and integrate measures along the value-added chain with respect to reducing emissions.

Step by step, our path towards an environmentally friendly and emission-free future is becoming a reality.
