WHERE THE WHEEL JOURNEY BEGINS.

We can’t reinvent the wheel. We just want to perfect its production. Our range of wheels reflects MINI’s pioneering spirit, exacting standards and rigorous testing procedures, which go well beyond legal requirements. The result? High-quality, durable wheels you can rely on in any situation. Elegant in style, uncompromising in substance.
MINI Wheels are cast from molten aluminium, which is poured into a mould and cooled before it is removed. The process is closely monitored by latest computer technologies to guarantee the high quality of our wheels. It reduces costs, and allows a high degree of precision and freedom of design. Cast wheels are low in weight and high in stiffness.
A wheel can be forged from a solid piece of aluminum. Alternatively, a high-end option is to mill the entire spoke design after forging the base material. Forged aluminium wheels are 10 to 20 % lighter in weight than aluminium cast wheels and allow a more delicate design of the spokes.
This is a shaping process where pressure is applied to the inner barrel while the cast wheel is spinning. This stretches and compresses the aluminum, which increases tensile strength and makes it possible to achieve particularly low wall thicknesses of the rim. This results in very light-weight and stable wheels with significant benefits in terms of shock resistance, elongation and load capacity.
Wheel mass can be reduced by machining non-structurally critical material from the spokes. Undercutting between the spoke connection and the rim well base can achieve additional premium styling effects for the rims, and give them a 3D appearance.
The surfaces of MINI Light Alloy Wheels are finished in a variety of elaborate ways to achieve special designs and refinements. Powder coating makes the wheel resistant to environmental factors such as corrosive de-icing salt.

RUN-FLAT TECHNOLOGY.

Run-flat technology enables you to continue driving your MINI with a puncture at speeds of up to 80 km/h. The reinforced side walls are made of a heat-resistant rubber, while special rim geometry stops the depressurised tyre from slipping off, even on bends. This reduces the risk of accidents as you don’t need to stop on a dangerous hard shoulder, but simply head to the next service partner.

HOW WHEELS CAN CHANGE THE RANGE.

The size and design of the wheels can have a significant impact on the range of your electric MINI. Larger alloy wheels may look the part, but they tend to be heavier, less aerodynamic and are combined with harder tyres, which reduces overall efficiency. Here, we explain some technical reasons for this – and how aero wheels or wheel covers can help make up some of the lost range.

ROLLING RESISTANCE.

One value shown on an EU tyre label is fuel efficiency. This is closely linked to rolling resistance. The higher the rolling resistance, the more energy your MINI needs to overcome it – which means lower efficiency and range. An EU tyre label grades from A to E, with A being the best in terms of efficiency.

Proper tyre inflation is crucial. Underinflated tyres increase rolling resistance, leading to higher energy consumption. Your Tyre Pressure Monitor will always give you an accurate tyre pressure reading in your MINI. Simply select "My MINI" > "Vehicle status" > "Tyre Pressure Monitor". It’s also worth noting that larger, wider tyres generally have greater road contact, resulting in higher rolling resistance.

AERODYNAMICS.

Aerodynamically optimised, MINI Light Alloy Wheels contribute to the lightweight construction and reduce air resistance. Their smooth surfaces are mostly enclosed, which effectively reduces the amount of air turbulence and drag produced around the wheels to increase the efficiency of your MINI. They look fantastic, too, uniting their innovative aerodynamic properties with a sophisticated, sporty elegance.

ROTATIONAL MASS.

Heavier wheels require more energy to rotate, especially during acceleration. As EVs regenerate energy under braking, heavier wheels can also slightly reduce the efficiency of regenerative braking, limiting how much power gets fed back into the battery.

EU TYRE LABEL.

The EU tyre label provides objective, reliable and comparable information with regards to fuel efficiency (rolling resistance), wet grip and external rolling noise. It also shows a tyre's suitability for severe snow conditions and its grip in icy conditions.

FAQs.

If you change just one single tyre on your front- or rear-wheel-drive MINI, make sure that the difference in tread depth between the new tyre and the other tyre on the same axle is no more than 2 mm. If you drive a MINI ALL4, all four tyres must be replaced at the same time to avoid damage to the transfer box.

This all depends on where you normally drive. If you usually experience hot summers and cold winters, we recommend that you switch to MINI Approved Summer Tyres when the temperature rises above 7°C, then back to MINI Approved Winter Tyres when the weather cools down. This way you can enjoy your MINI as it performs to its true potential.

MINI Approved Summer Tyres represent the ideal balance of comfort, acoustics, and rolling resistance. They have larger tread block and reliably prevent hydroplaning and offer increased directional stability and steering precision even at high speeds. This makes your ride safer, and also delivers superior comfort and handling.

MINI Approved Winter Tyres are safer on the road at temperatures below 7°C. They are equipped with additional rubber patterns that open when your MINI is in motion. This creates extra grip that helps ensure high traction and directional stability on snow, slush, and mud. It also improves braking distance up to 10% in wet conditions and up to 50% in ice and snow.

Correct tyre pressure determines the service life of the tyres, driving safety, ride comfort and also fuel consumption. This is why we recommend checking the tyre pressure and adjusting it as necessary at least twice per month and before setting off on a lengthy journey. You should do this even if the tyre pressure of your vehicle is monitored electronically.

If your vehicle has an emergency spare wheel, please check this at the same time. The tyre pressure figures refer to cold tyres or tyres that are at the same temperature as the surroundings.

As a MINI Service Inclusive customer, you are entitled to all services contained in the respective package – without any extra costs. This is valid for the agreed contract period or until you have covered the mileage specified in your contract (whichever is reached first). And because it is transferable to the new owner, the package maximises the resale value of your car.

By investing in Genuine MINI Accessories, you are maintaining the safety, functionality and durability of your MINI. Their high quality and precise fit make them exceptionally reliable and long-lasting. This way, you will retain the value of your MINI and the pleasure of driving it for a long time to come.

Winter tyres are made out of special compounds that are adapted for coldness. These help the tyres stay soft and flexible to provide optimum grip even at very low temperatures. They are characterised by their deep tread thickness and wide, deep tread grooves which handle snow far better than summer tyres. There are also numerous lamellas – cutouts in zigzag pattern – on the tread surface. Lamellas help the tread depth catch the snow and ice to improve contact with the ground and provide a high level of traction and directional stability.

The rubber compounds used in summer tyres are considerably harder than they are in winter tyres so they can handle the summer heat. Summer tyres have large contact patches which give the car a better grip on the road. Although the tread pattern has fewer grooves, they are bigger so they can move large quantities of water away to the sides, maximising the contact with the road in order to avoid aquaplaning.
